You can decorate the mandap as well as the entrance of your homes with brass vessels, brass lamps, shimmering lights, vibrant tassels, traditional motifs, and lanterns to spread the divine aura. Use traditional fabrics like silk or cotton for drapes and tablecloths. Hang decorative torans (festive garlands) or bandhanwars made of flowers or beads above the Pooja area.
2. Decorative thrones for Ganpati
Elevate your Ganesha idol by placing it on a decorative throne or pedestal. This not only highlights the idol but also makes it the focal point of your decorations. You can enhance the throne by adding a decorative backdrop behind the throne. This could be a simple curtain with traditional patterns or a more elaborate setup with flowers and lights.
3. Light up the ambience
Lighting plays a crucial role in creating a festive and spiritually uplifting atmosphere for Ganpati Pooja. Use decorative candles and diyas in various sizes and colours. Arrange them in holders or on trays around the Pooja area to enhance the festive mood. String fairy lights or LED lights around the Pooja area, entrance, or even around windows. Hang colourful paper lanterns or lantern-shaped lights in the Pooja area or around the house. Use backlit panels or lighted screens as a backdrop for the Ganpati idol. Place soft glow lamps to create a serene and calming effect.
4. Add festive furnishings
Swap out everyday cushions, curtains and tablecloths with more vibrant and traditional options. Choose fabrics with Indian prints, such as paisley or mandala, in bright colours. This not only enhances the festive atmosphere but also makes your living space feel warm and inviting. Mix and match patterns and textures to keep the decor interesting and dynamic.
5. Add floral decorations
Hang decorative torans made of marigold, jasmine, or rose petals at the entrance of your home. Create a beautiful rangoli with the use of coloured flower petals at the entrance or along the pathway leading to the Pooja area. Set up a floral backdrop behind the Ganpati idol using fresh or artificial flowers. Place vases or bowls with fresh flowers on tables, shelves, and other areas. Create floral chimes or hanging decorations with strings of flowers. Hang these from the ceiling or around doorways to add a whimsical touch. Place flower petals in bowls of water, add floating candles for a serene effect, or use them in decorative trays.
